For lack of a better title, I'm calling this category "Asia." I use the term meaning a decor style rather than as a geographical place. To my mind, "Asian" decor does not include Indian themes, for example. In fact, Indian, Thai, Chinese, and Japanese decor could each have its own category, and maybe someday I'll set that up. But for now...
Photos are not commonly a part of Asian decor. You can instead use those great Chinese pantings or tapestries. To my taste, those are a little bland and old-timey, and the colors tend to be subdued. I tried to find a selection of prints that give the Asian feel but are also colorful and modern. In the end, I included some, such as Chinese Fisherman on Rafts Fishing with Cormorants in the top row, that are photographic versions of the classic Chinese painting style, because they are so compelling.
Scroll down to see a section on Felice Beato. I like old photos for wall decor, and he's one of my particular favorites.
I like how they call this photo "Asia"! But she is a cutie.

This one reminds me of one of those Chinese paintingswhere so much is left blank; where mountains or trees are suggested with only a few expert strokes and shadings. Very soothing.

Felice Beato photographed in Asia from the 1850s to the 1890s. He was one of the first to photograph in Asia, and one of the first war photographers (Crimean War, 1855). His best work is the portraits he did in Japan, of people in traditional clothing, going about their traditional way of life. Some of these would work well when you need a grouping of similar pictures. You can see all his available prints at the Felice Beato Art.com page. |
